Overlooked but Effective Face Treatments for Stubborn Blackheads and Acne
DIY Facial Treatments That Work Without Breaking the Bank
Do you have persistent blackheads or acne? Have you poured money into treatments or over-the-counter masks that fail or only do half the job? If so, take a peek at these commonly overlooked but highly effective face treatments that you can do at home for under $10!
Lemon, Sugar or Lemon, Sugar, and Honey
What You'll Need:- Ripe Meyer Lemons
- Sugar
- Raw Honey (only if including honey, it's normally best to include honey for acne but only raw honey)
- Washcloth
- Water
This wildly simple method is overlooked but when done consistently it can have impactful results. I swear by it as it's kept my skin clear since I was a teen.
Using a hot or very warm washcloth steam open your pores. This step is crucial for success as it opens up your pores.
Next, simply cut a lemon in half dip in sugar and if treating acne, add a little bit of honey. Rub in circular motions on your face, then rinse well. It works because the lemon is a gentler acid than the commonly used salicylic acid in over-the-counter acne washes and creams, which for a lot of people is too harsh on the skin. The acidity of the lemon helps kill bacteria that causes acne and blackheads but doesn't over-irritate the skin. The sugar acts as a exfoliate and removes dead and dry skin from the face and also scrubs away at the dirt in the pores. Raw honey is nature's antibiotic, so adding it to this helps heal your pores and any open or near opening acne.
Sparkling Water Facial
What You'll Need:
- One Bottle Plain, Unflavored Sparkling Water (my favorite is Arrowhead Sparkling Water.)
- Warm/Hot Water
- A Bowl Large Enough to Fit Your Face
- Cool Water
Steam open your pores using a hot or very warm washcloth.
Then, fill your bowl with the sparkling water. Take a deep breath and take a couple refreshing dunks into your bowl of sparkling water. The idea is to hold your breath while allowing the carbonated bubbles to seep into your pores, which helps work out dirt and oils. Afterwards, you should have fewer blackheads or they should be easier to remove.
Rinse with cool water and moisturize afterward.
Redness Reduction Treatment
If you find that you have a lot of facial redness this mask might be beneficial to use every other day.
What You'll Need:
- 2 Tbsp raw oats
- 1 Tsp honey
- 1/2 Banana
Oats are a natural, gentle exfoliator, but they're also well-known for their soothing powers. Mash it up with a ripe banana to form a paste. Honey has antibacterial properties and helps offer grip to the mask.
Anti Aging Chocolate Mask
Fine lines setting in, are they bugging you? I know mine have been me! This is a fun alternative to expensive anti-aging masks and my skin feels tighter after every use!
- 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons of oats
- 4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1/4 avocado
When chocolate is applied topically, you get the benefits of its anti-aging properties, which help the production of collagen. Combine it with honey, heavy cream avocado and honey and you have a wonderful creamy concoction that glides on your face. Apply a thin light layer, leave it on for ten minutes and gently rinse it off. Plus, it smells amazing and you'll want to set aside some leftover cocoa nibs to nibble on.
