In the animal world, flirting is a lot more instinctual than it is for humans. Scientists have established that most animals find their mates through the sense of smell—specifically, through their reactions to pheromones.

Pheromones are basically natural oils that send a signal to the opposite sex that you're ready to mate. The stronger the pheromone an animal releases, the more attractive animals of the opposite sex will find them.

Their existence has been known for ages in the animal kingdom, but only recently have scientists agreed that humans use them as well. Perfumers who have been aiming to help people get lucky in love started to roll out fragrances that have synthetic sex attractants in them.

Pheromone fragrances are slowly becoming more mainstream. You can now get pheromones for men, pheromones for women, and some which claim to be unisex. Whether they work or not remains up to anecdotal evidence, but there are people out there who swear by them.

Want to give your love life a little feral attraction? Here are the fragrances that generated the most buzz in recent years.

This is considered to be one of the most popular pheromone fragrances on the Amazon market, with reviews that definitely back up the claim. Unlike others on the market, it seems like there's some scientific backing to Raw Chemistry's claim.

The perfume includes human pheromones that are known to attract men, including estratetraenol and copulins. Wearers claim that For Her works well, and has a youthful, crisp scent.

Due to the nature of human pheromones, this perfume is a little more moisturizing than most. It's not an essential oil mixture for skin care, but it will help you absorb all that fragrance meant to make you a little more irresistible to men.

"I wear this every day. A bottle lasts a little over a month and I use 2-3 sprays, sometimes reapplying at night. It is a very light scent so it's good for people who can't stand cloying scents. My husband has not liked a perfume I have used since we were in our 20's. But this he doesn't readily identify as perfume. He just says that I always smell so good and clean. Yep. Clean. Sometimes while sniffing my hair and neck."—Heather Wolf

If you're looking for something a little bit more affordable, you might want to check out Max Attraction. This eau de parfum (French for perfume) is meant to help grab men's attention by spritzing you with synthetic human pheromones blended with copulins.

The perfume itself is described as pleasant, while still giving you an "oomph" that stands out. It's a very biological smell, which is why many choose to pair it with the designer perfume of their choice.

"I'm a repeat customer, been wearing the scented version of this for years and I love it! The unscented version is pretty strong but it’s great if you put your favorite perfume on along with it to hide the pheromone smell! Will continue to buy both!"—Ms. Anita

I'll admit it. I have actually worn Truth, the new perfume by adult film star Stormy Daniels. It's a really pretty scent that's allegedly infused with sexy pheromones—and honestly, I'd believe it.

The thing is, this perfume is limited edition, which makes it particularly hard to find online. Even so, if you manage to get your hands on a bottle of it, expect to fall in love with it.

Racked did a whole feature on it. I happen to agree with their synopsis.

Basic Instinct is one of the oldest pheromone fragrances on the market, and it's created by the folks at Pure Romance. Though it's considered to be a novelty company, it's really hard to ignore all the good reviews they have on Amazon.

The perfume itself is clean, girly, and almost a little bit reminiscent of candy. That being said, it's not cloyingly sweet and works well on all skin types.

""I like that," he said, before telling me that it actually gave him a partial-erection. "Is that the kind of perfume with hormones in it or something?" I never told him I was going to order it because I wanted it to be a blind experiment, but he was right on."—Steph

Marilyn Miglin was the one who really kicked off the idea of bringing pheromones into perfumes. Ever since the 1970s, this perfume has been getting folks hot under the collar while keeping things elegant and classy.

No one really knows whether this perfume contains pheromones, but one thing is for sure. This is a designer fragrance that has serious staying power, and a scent that can't be forgotten.

"I used to wear this fragrance in the 90's...loved it then, and love it again. The Amazon price is 'right on', since other outlets have it priced at least $10 higher."—Stephie

If you're looking to attract women, you're going to have to wade through a lot of gross perfumes touting pheromones for men. Eye of Love is a bit different, because it actually smells good and seems to have a decent following online.

A single spritz will last several hours, which means that the small bottle won't be an issue. It's described as a sensual, heady scent that's both masculine and stylish at the same time.

"Smells good and last a while. One spray will last about 4-5 hours."—Vivian Le

Classic Erotica recently rolled out a light, fun, and flirty perfume that is designed to give ladies the romantic boost they need. Their body mist, Wanna Be Sexy Flirty, is a fan favorite among ladies who want something simple and fresh without it being overpowering.

Along with a nice, healthy dose of pheromones, Classic Erotica made this scent chockfull of the aroma of plumeria. Even if you're not a fan of pheromones, you'll love this floral, seductive oriental fragrance perfect for date night.

"Smells amazing. Very light. My SO who can't take perfumes loves this."—Laura Calascibetta

This is another perfume that's considered to be an "OG" among pheromone fragrances, and though it's cheap, it definitely seems to pack a pretty powerful punch.

This has a similarly sweet, yet attractive scent, with a perfume texture that is somewhat creamy in nature. If you love moisturizing scents that have a unisex vibe, you might like this universal sexual attraction pheromone cocktail.

"So if you've read any of the reviews, it's pretty universally accepted that this stuff smells nice. It's incredible! It's not too powerful, but it's not weak, it's just a soft, nice aroma. That being said, I am a male in my mid-20s, and since wearing this cologne, I cannot get the ladies off of me."—T.J

Simply Sexy Love is a brand new perfume that only recently hit the market, but don't let that fool you. It's quickly grabbing fans on the net. This chypre perfume blends citrus, florals, and pheromones to create a gorgeous scent.

Though the jury is still out on whether the pheromones actually work, nobody can deny that its scent is a serious contender for being a knockout at the club when paired up with cool makeup looks for date night.

"I absolutely love it..."—Deborah Gaskin

Androstenone is one of the most potent pheromones on the market, so it only makes sense to include it in a formula that carries one of the best pheromone fragrances. Lure is a science-backed perfume that offers a floral-citrus scent laced with serious attraction pheromone power.

The best way to describe this perfume is clean—and pointedly feminine. If you want to charm your way around a guy's heart, this is a great pick to help you out.

"Very nice packaging, smells amazing and people respond to it, would keep buying this perfume."—Shay
