11 New Palettes and My Tiff with Them (Pt. 8)

Disclaimer: Information was gathered via trendmood, indiemakeupspotlight, and Indvidual brands’ social media and web shops. If links are missing for some, then the palettes still have not been released on online stores. I was going to write a whole article about colourpop’s collaboration with Disney, but I got lazy. But it’s on number 11 and a bit long. I skim edit rarely, so mistakes are likely.

1. Lost In Space by Milla Cosmetics

The colour story goes well with the name of the palette, especially for the Halloween season, that big brands seem to love to overlook. The packaging seems lacklustre but at 25 USD, it’s alright. If shipping permits, there’s a chance I’d get this.

2. Plouise Palette by Plouise Makeup Academy

My head hurts looking at both the packaging and the colour story. Enough said. Not for me.

3. Unearthly by Alien Cosmetics

For a palette inspired by Halloween, it doesn’t seem very halloweeny.

4. The Tribe by Juvia’s Place

I am low key excited about the colourstory, but my hopes are low. There are two campaigns who complain about JP being too neutral vs them being defended on having bright colours in the palette. The real tea? JP essentially produces neutral palettes with pops of colour in them. They still have not to my knowledge realeased a colourful palette with an actual colour story.

5. Sultry by ABH

ABH simply do not understand do they? Not only a boring colour story, but the packaging too. If you want to stick to your warm guns, at least make an effort to come up with an innovative theme that goes hand in hand with the warm story. Like Gingerbread by Too Faced, not that Gingerbread is that innovative mind you. But it’s a pleasant trip back to what’s holiday traditional.

6. Libertine by Viseart

Viseart generally is not a brand my I am either intrigued by or attracted to. And if I ever in the distinct future see myself picking something up, it’s their regular 12 (?) pan palettes. Unless, they come up with an exciting packaging plus a cohesive colour story.

7. Friendcation by Desi x Katy and Dose of Colors

I have one word. It starts with M (monotone) to the E (exhausted) to the H (hungry for dough).

8. Swamp Allure Collection by Hedo Cosmetics

I look at them, and I am intrigued by them but not so much excited by them. The price point, and my memory, will be deciding factor whether I pick this up or not. Most likely not though. The palette with the greens and browns I do think goes very well with the idea of swamp. Point for the brand, on that score.

9. Halloween by OMFG Cosmetics

This to be very honest looks cheap. Not my cup of tea.

10. Witchcraft: Book of Shadows by Ve Cosmetics

This is a rainbow palette on that darker side of things. Again I prefer having a shimmer, a light matte, and a dark matte at the very least for a colour in my palette (i.e The Dynasty Palette by Certifeye). Thus, while I love the shadows individually. Together not my thing. Plus, I’ve never been into glitter packaging, so that’s a detractor too. But objectively I think it’s cute, and matches well with the overall theme.

11. Disney and Colourpop Collaboration

I am extremely annoyed by this one. A palette like this demands colours. And you know what’s more aggravating that they could have had both neutrals and colours and still stayed true to each Princess. And it irks me that the shadows are not named after the Princesses. Why Disney? Why Colourpop? While I aesthetically love the art, I still feel that it’s too devirgent for many people to relate to. It seems less like Disney princesses, and more so inspired by Disney princesses. The essence of each princesses, those that were even included is just not there.

Here’s a list of Princesses and what I think there colours could have been. The one’s with an atresik are wearable colours that I often see in everyday palettes.

1. Pocahontas: A camel/tan matte * (The shade of her dress)
2. Jasmine: A golden metallic/shimmer * (We Asian princesses love our gold, at least I do. And I don’t care if I sound stereotypical. I love gold).
3. Mulan: A white matte base or a deep brown/black matte * (Remember the scene where her face painted to look white, despite her being fair to begin with. And then again her hair also was quite enviable).
4. Elsa: A silver/blue duo chrome (She’s the bloody ice queen)
5. Anna: A deepening crease shadow with an orange tone * (I think her hair is what makes her remarkedly so different from her sibling, because their personalities I find are quite similar).
6. Belle: A yellow matte or perhaps a rosy berry shimmer (That dance was everything, but they could’ve have played it safe with the rose’s curse too)
7. Rapunzel: A light brown matte or a purplish mauve matte * (She’s my favourite. And she looked so cute in that dress).
8. Tiana: A lime green shimmer (She’s the frog princess, who kissed one only to... you get the drift)
9. Ariel: A regular dark green matte (There are too many princesses who could use the blue, and one I think who deserves the red a bit more, so we will settle on green for the mermaid’s tail).
10. Snow White: A red matte (Poisonous apple anyone?)
11. Aurora: Could have been a light blue or pink matte (Not a lot of substance to go on for this one, but we’ll settle for her pretty dress).
12. Cinderlla: A light blue shimmer (Do you even have to ask?)
13. Merida: An orange matte * (Again, do you even have to ask?)
14. Moana: Again going by apparel, they could have given her any neutral shadow (brown, camel, base). *
15. Anastasia: A swampy green matte, an off orange-red matte (Look at the poster).
16. Kida: A silver shimmer * (If a man had her hair, I’d be in love).

Out of sixteen shadows, I have curated eight which could have been neutrals and still be a loyal representation of the princesses. And then the colourful ones are self explanatory.
