A Breakdown to Specific Types of Makeup and What They Do

We're all guilty of watching makeup video. Sometimes seeing all the different types of products is overwhelming! Don't worry, I'm here to help. *I will be adding links to videos if you want to check them out.* (Of course, you don't need all of the products listed below, this is just providing a general idea of common products in the makeup world!)

Face Products

  • First up, primer! Primer helps preserve your makeup, and it also makes it last longer. Before I used primer, my makeup came off after an hour or two of wear. Not only that, when it came off, it didn't look even at all!
  • There are different types of primer; face, eye, moisture primer, etc. The video provided will explain this into further detail, and it also explains how to apply the product correctly!| Video |
  • Next, concealer! This covers up blemishes and imperfections in the skin. It is also much thicker than foundation, which is good to use under the eyes. Not much is needed, apply small portions under the eyes (A little goes a long way!)
  • Foundation can go anywhere on your face! This is used to create an even skin tone. (This also covers up blemishes as well!) To apply, take a brush, makeup sponge, or your hand and apply in small portions as needed, and blend!
  • Powder is used to set foundation, and it gives your skin a nice, matte finish. Before applying, make sure to lightly tap your brush to release any extra powder, then lightly buff the powder into the skin.
  • Blemish Balm (BB Cream) covers redness, pimples/acne, and scarring. Not only does it cover up blemishes, this is also really good for your skin! This helps heal your skin as a bonus!
  • Blush is applied at the apples of the cheeks, and gives a flushed or red appearance. Blush is also available in many colors, sometimes even in blue, black, or green colors!
  • Contour shades are available in powders, creams, and pallets. This gives the illusion of slimmer facial features.
  • Highlights pull attention to specific areas of the face. Most commonly, the tip of the nose under the brow, and the "T" area (between the eyebrows and down towards your nose.)
  • Bronzer creates a tanning effect without actually tanning your skin!
  • After the Bronzer and Blush, try using Setting Spray! This amazing product keeps your makeup in tact, and ensures longer wear.

Eye Products

  • Eye Primer is used to make eye shadow and liner last longer! This also helps your eye shadow look more vibrant!
  • Eyeliner creates a bolder eye look. This can be used in multiple colors and styles! (Cat eyes, thin liner, winged liner, etc.)
  • False eyelashes create the appearance of bolder eyelashes. To apply, add glue to the base of the eyelash, let it dry until tacky, line up with your actual eyelashes, hold in place until fully dry.
  • Eyebrow pencils are used to fill in or tint your eyebrows. To use, brush your eyebrows with a spooly (They look like mascara wands, but they're used to even out your brows)

Lip Products

  • Lip Primer makes the lips appear smoother in texture, and also allows lipstick to last longer.
  • Lipstick is used to give color and texture to the lips and usually lasts longer than Lip Glosses.
  • Lip Glosses create a glossy look and they are available in clear, color, glittery, and metallic shades!
  • Lip liner primarily stops lipstick from bleeding into your skin near your lips.

This should provide a general idea about different types of makeup products out there. Sorry if I forgot to include other types of products. As always, stay beautiful, and I'll see you in another article.
