Disclaimer: These eyeshadow palettes keep on dropping faster than I can blink. Critiquing is not being negative, it’s about giving brands positive feedback on possible improvements. This list contains both mainstream (*) and indie, new/upcoming releases.

Sources: Sephora, Ulta, Trenmood, indiemakeupspotligh, and individual brand websites and their social media.

I fell in love with the packaging. Had my fingers crossed that the colour story would match the theme. Alas, the colour story dropped yesterday and it made me very annoyed. Where are the yellows, the organges, the reds, a green or two? I get that people are obsessed with neutral shadows and if that is what they want, then that’s exactly what brands are going to do. But it’s also a fact that the makeup industry is already saturated with more than enough “wearable” palettes. So if one unordinary one comes out, once in a blue moon, that is not suited to your taste, then that’s not a big deal. What annoys me a lot is when brands use a theme but do not reflect that in their colour story. Essentially it’s a profit geared move that says that buy our recycled expensive shadows simply because the packaging is colourful. No thank you.

2. Karrueche x Colourpop *

This is meant for the fans of whoever this individual is. I don’t know who she is, the colourstory is recycled, and therefore this is not for me. It’s still just a sneak peek though, so maybe the real one might be different (but I doubt it).

I personally like a palette that has both colourful and everyday shadows in it. As long as each colourful shimmer has a respective matte, and vice versa. But what I don’t like is an incohesive and random disorganized mess. And that’s exactly what this one is. Plus the see through top is not up my ally either, usually.

Any palette that reminds me of the Naked series is boring the house. #RichLux. While this brand is on my wishlist, this particular palette is really not up my ally. I understand the need for brands to have that one neutral palette in their collection, but come on, is innovative designing too much to ask for?

Despite the nice colourstory, the packaging does not meet my aesthetic pleasure, so pass. Plus buying the Huda Beauty obsessions minis would be more cheaper.

To be very honest, I do not like this palette. I like the sisters’ artwork individually but together with that colour selection, just makes my head hurt. If they’d come out with three different palettes geared towards each sister, I would have been more likely to pick it up. Plus, colourpop and drugstore (cheaper ahem cheaper) palettes look more luxe than this.

Looks more like a highlighter palette rather than an eyeshadow palette that can’t decide if it wants to be a unicorn palette or an office lady palette. The packaging is super cute and chic. But 70 CAD for an indie brand? No thank you. I have paid less for a YSL palette.

This is the pigment Fenty Beauty’s Moroccan Spice should have had. But aside from that positive, there are three red shadows that look exactly the same. And that does not make me want to risk buying this.

I low key like this, simply because the theme makes sense with the utter rainbow- ness of the colour selection. Walking on the rainbow ends in a pot of gold, remember that story? If the packaging is lit, very likely that I’ll pick it up (unless I forget about it, which again is also very likely).

10. Fall Fusion Palette by Blush Tribe

This has to be my favourite UK based indie brand. I feel like it’s UK’s Juvia’s Place. But, I don’t know about this one. Love the packaging. The colour story makes sense with the packaging but not nescessarily with each other, especially the colourful ones. I feel like it’s really a pop of colour palette in an regular palette and those just are not my thing.

Love it despite it’s neutralness. Even went ahead to buy it, but it was out of stock. The packaging just hits too close to my historical anime loving self.

90s (I think, but I could be wrong) card game adverts are not my cup of tea. But it’s a unique packaging, I’ll give it that.

13. Never Cancelled Palette by Makeup Maniac Cosmetics x Cee Cee LaRouge

One, large palettes are not my thing. Two, there is such a thing as too much holograph for me. Three, glitters are not an everyday thing for me, if ever. Four, not really into the drag community for entertainment purposes. Five, I hope you get my drift.

I honestly don’t know what I think about this. On one hand, it’s a no. But on the other I am low-key intrigued. But at the end of the day this is not my kind of rainbow.

Sighs. Go google search what aurora lights look like and then go look at the palette.

Aside from that lengthy name, where are the bloody rose “quartz” shadows? Yes I know what rose quartz looks like.

17. Pretty Puppy by Too Faced *

While this is not for me, I like this simply because the packaging matches the neutral colour selection theme to a T. That I am okay with.

18. Holiday Obsessions Collection by Huda Beauty *

Still not out yet. But I am salvitating. Is it bad that I want them all? I am stoked.

19. Gingerbread by Too Faced *

Again Too Faced does a palette that goes very well with Christmas (Pineapple ahem Tarte ahem). Again they also do a theme that goes very well with the non-innovative colour selection (Volcano Goddess ahem Becca ahem). The only reason I will not be buying this is because I already have 3 palettes by this brand. And if I keep buying from one brand, than not only does my bank account get hurt, but it also takes away from my ability to experience other brands. But I am in love with this. And if it goes on sale, don’t know if I’ll be able to resist that.

20. Feral by Menagerie Cosmetics

Love the packaging. Generally, I am not Canine person. Cats all the way. But I prefer wolves over lions. Fingers crossed for the colour story. Though, I wish the background was darker reflecting nighttime, instead of green.

21. Divinity Palette by Strobe Cosmetics

While their Creepy Cute palette was obviously that, extremely cute. This one just looks like a cheap essence cutesy palette.

Buy at: Still not out yet.

22. Tectonic Palette by Sample Beauty

I don’t like large palettes with too many shadows. Because whenever I look at one generally all I see is a sea of “similar” colours. Plus there’s always the chance with such palettes ending up trashy. Don’t know how it’ll look like, don’t care to find out.

23. Seven Deadly Sins by Eunique Beauty

My naughty devious soul wants this very bad. This is simply put for me a collectors piece. At first I thought this was by Storybook Cosmetics, and I almost dropped my mug in shock. But alas, it wasn’t. Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you. Only pro was that it would’ve ended up in Ulta.

24. Fetish by Kat Von D *

I have several safe “acceptable” fetishes, or rather obsessive hobbies. You see why I might want this. Exactly. But I did anti-haul the brand. Perhaps the negative air surrounding her brand will make it go on sale, fingers crossed. I’ll buy it only if that happens.

25. Safari Palette by Natasha Denona

I hate the fact that I am loving this. I don’t want to love this. That’s a hundred and ninety dollars with taxes. Please don’t be amazing, please don’t.
