An Honest FabFitFun Review

I fell for the hype and ordered the Spring 2019 box. Here's what I think of the subscription and products.

I'm sure you're familiar with the very popular subscription box FabFitFun. Celebrities and instagram influencers are constantly promoting it, whether you follow them or not, you've seen these promo posts.

The boxes are curated and shipped per season, I subscribed in time to receive the Spring 2019 box. After seeing ad after ad of celebrities and other people opening the boxes and showing off some really awesome products I decided to try it. The idea of a big colorful box being shipped to you full of great surprises and goodies was really enticing to me to be honest. But just one box is $49.99US and ships for free, or you can subscribe annually for $179.99, (sadly, if you are Canadian like me, the shipping is about $10, after the conversion rate its closer to $80 for the one box.) Now the brand claims that the box is full of products valued over $200+, but I really didn't see it.

The ads show celebrities opening boxes full of high end brands, such as Tarte, Charlotte Tilbury, Cover FX, Pier 1, OUAI, Kendall & Kylie, and more. There are a lot of brands that I had personally never heard of, but they the Youtube reveal and review videos always had people raving about them. I should have reminded myself that they were paid advertisements and not genuine reviews...

When you sign up it asks you to rate a number of different products on a scale of: Love it, Like it, It's OK, or Hate it. The types of products it asks you about includes: Make Up, Skin Care, Fitness, Fashion, Jewelry, Snacks, and so on. Items I really didn't want to receive, such as Snacks, or Kitchenware, I rated as 'Hate it'. The one mistake I made was listing anything within the 'Like it' or 'It's OK' category... I would recommend only rating items as 'Love it' or 'Hate it' to avoid receiving items you don't want. I responded 'It's OK' to Jewelry and received a really cheap looking and feeling costume necklace.

When you purchase your box there is a period of time where "Customization" opens and you can go in and choose some of your items from the options available that season. My first choice was between a bright and flowery silk bath robe, an essential oil diffuser, or an weird canvas backpack. I went with the diffuser since I had been eyeing one at Sage for a while, and figured this was a good way to test one out before spending big money one on.

My next customization was between a 2 different pairs of sunglasses, both by brands I had never heard of, but were both apparently very expensive and Australian, or an overnight mask. I went with the Aviator sunglasses. They are really good quality, and a nice shape, but a little big in my opinion. But these would be different on everyone.

The third customization was between a set of brass measuring spoons, a body lotion, or a mystery gift. I chose the body lotion since I didn't want a set of spoons, and didn't trust the mystery gift.

In addition to the options I selected I received the necklace I mentioned before, a charcoal body scrub, TULA facial cleanser and OUAI leave in conditioner. To be honest, the only item I was excited about was the OUAI hairspray. I was so disappointed when customization opened, since none of the products were as nice or worthy as the ones I had seen in previous boxes online. The body lotion is a cheap and extremely fragrant product that I will likely gift to someone. The diffuser is simple and nice, but just not worth it to me. Overall the box was just a huge let down.

Before my box shipped I lurked some reviews and spoilers to see what other products I might receive. Some people received Swell water bottles, which looked really nice and I was really hoping for one, but instead I received the necklace. This is why I suggest you respond 'Hate it' to anything you don't really want. Some people also received a Serena Williams Skipping Rope. This is something I was really disappointed not to get since I responded 'Love it' to Fitness accessories, but instead I received the facial cleanser. Something I will never use since I have my own skin care routine, and really sensitive skin so I am not looking to experiment. I had responded 'I Like it' to Skincare, because I was hoping for some face masks, but will never use a cleanser.

Overall the products I received just aren't worth it to me. If you want to explore new products then the FabFitFun box is a great way to do it. But I didn't receive anything that made it worth the $50.00US/$80.00CDN. My box definitely wasn't worth over $200. I cancelled my subscription, since the seasonal boxes ($49.99 option) renew on their own. Luckily I caught that before it set me up for a Summer box. Next time I want to try new products I'll just buy the products. This way I won't be stuck with items I don't want and will never use, and can return anything I don't want. My whole FabFitFun box will basically be re-gifted.
