Complexion Hits and Misses

Put that eyeshadow down because it’s all about complexion today, hunniiiii! Personally, I think foundation and complexion products have been the focal point in many brands, especially in the past couple of years. Like there’s only so many warm tone eyeshadow palettes that can be released until everything eventually ends up looking the same. My point is that everything has become a little (maybe more than a little) repetitive, and really the only products that are constantly changing are complexion products. From undertones to finish to longevity; foundations and concealers will always spark interest for me. Here are some of my personal hits and misses

Lemme start with saying PLS IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIED OUT THIS FOUNDATION YET, GO AND GET A SAMPLE!!!! Personally, Giorgio Armani’s luminous silk is definitely a holy grail in my books. It’s quite hard to explain, because it's luminous and glowy but still holds up all day and can be built to the fullest coverage or sheered down. Either way, it feels like you have absolutely nothing on your face, which is a major deal for me. Personally, I hate being able to “feel” my foundation on. I would say that luminous silk is good for all skin types, especially if your skin's dry and crusty like mine. If you have oily skin, I would use a primer and keep a compact to touch up throughout the day. It may sound annoying, but once you get this foundation on your face, touching up will see almost worth it. I personally don’t usually ever go for a full coverage look regardless of the day. I enjoy being able to see some of my skin peek through my foundation so I only use one pump of this foundation and in my opinion, I think one pump is perfect at just evening out your complexion. I’m not gonna lie, the foundation is a little on the pricier side, going for about $70 depending on where you live, but a little does go an extremely long way! I’ve had mine for about four months now and I still have half a bottle after testing and using it every day. Definitely a holy grail, and if you have the budget/ want to treat yourself, I would highly recommend!

Next up, Fenty Beauty, baby!! First of all, huge congrats to Rihanna and kendo for such an amazing all-inclusive brand! Fenty did what every other makeup brand should have done YEARS AGO. It's time to end these ten white shades and one medium deep foundation ranges that many brands are still doing—especially the more luxurious brands, like how the fuck is your brand gonna prosper and make money when you’re cutting out a whole demographic of people who are not eggshell white of fairer? Personally, I’m not here for that. Fenty Beauty has upped the standards with complexion products and has shown that not everyone is the same shade of brown, or the same undertone. So thank you Fenty, for giving girls and boys the opportunity to actually find their perfect shade for once. Anyways, back to business. The Fenty pro filter foundation is amazing if you have oily/combination skin! With its matte formula, you can never worry about touching up or having your makeup slip off. My dry skin girls and boys may need a little extra TLC with a hydrating primer/moisturizer before application to prevent any dryness, but once applied, you can rest assured that this foundation will not budge! And with the huge shade range, there’s something for everyone!

Nars sheer glow. Cult favourite. If you haven’t heard of or used Nars’s sheer glow foundation, WHAT ROCK HAVE YOU BEEN UNDER???????????? All jokes aside, if you want or need healthy, sexy, flawless, glowing skin, Nars has you covered! This foundation is definitely not in any way shape or form matte, so if you’re a matte girl or guy, this foundation may not be for you. But if you enjoy looking like a glowing solar panel (like me) then you should definitely give this foundation a try! After lots of testing, I think this foundation is best applied with a dense brush over a beauty blender. I don’t know why, but it just looks a lot more flawless when you use a brush, and for my oily gyals and guys out there, you will most likely have to use a matte primer with this foundation if you need it to last. And for my dry skin peeps: I found that it's best to still hydrate the absolute fuck out of your skin, regardless of how glowy this foundation is. Ain't nobody got time to look crusty and dusty hunni!

Misses

It pains me to say this, Nars, but your matte skin tint is a hard pass for me. Sorry not sorry. Actually, let me rephrase that: if you have dry skin, this product is not for you. It's just WAY too matte for me, and too full coverage to marketed as a “skin tint.” Sometimes full coverage is just too much for the everyday person. So if you’re labeling it as a “tint,” it should be a tint and not a mask in a tube. If you’re oily, this product may work for you, but I just think that there are a lot better alternatives in the market.

And last but certainly not least, Hourglass. I’m not gonna lie, this product certainly does what it claims. My issue with it is that IT'S SO EFFING HARD TO BLEND. I remember the first time I tried out this product I was blending for twice as long as I usually do, and it still ended up a hot streak mess. If you have dry skin, this bitch will latch on to every single dry spot on your face and will not blend no matter how much you pounce that beauty blender or brush. All in all, I just think this product is way too expensive and way too tedious for me.

In conclusion, there are so many foundations on the market that it can often be very difficult to find the best out there for your skin type and needs. So here I am, trying to make your life a little easier for the next time you want to grab a new foundation.

Also a quick disclaimer: None of the products mentioned are bad in any way, shape, or form. Some just worked better than others, and just because I love/dislike a specific product does not mean that you may feel the same way. Go out and get a sample and try it before you buy it! But anyways, if you have read this far, thank you! I will be posting much more on makeup and skin care in the future! Stay tuned. 🙂

XOXOXO
