Dip Powder vs Acrylics

Which one is better?

Hello my little lovelies!

So it is no secret that I have been experimenting with different nail designs, and recently dipped my toes into the world of dipping powders! I just wanted to write about the stuff I liked about the two methods, and stuff I didn't like so much about each technique so that you can make your own educated decision about which method would be better for you if you are considering getting your nails done.

Acrylics

Its no secret that I have always loved getting my nails done but I'm never always consistent mainly because of cost. My go-to has always been acrylic nails because I'm a nail biter, and acrylic is one of the hardest things to bite off, and eventually you just give up and quit. That's one thing I love about acrylics; they are just hard as a rock I can't bite my nails. And they're sturdy too so they're not exactly easy to break, and they are quite durable. You can also do different techniques and designs with acrylics, and I've gotten some pretty cool designs with acrylics on my nails recently. It also helped my nails grow so that I could get the dip powder.

The one downside to it that I hate is that it can be a real pain in the behind to take off. When I had my acrylics taken off so I can do the dip powder it took them over 45 minutes just to remove the acrylic. That was a painstaking process, and I was at the salon longer than I should have been. And sometimes acrylic can be a little thick, and that is just plain unattractive. And because its powder mixed with a liquid, it hardens so it can damage your nails if not taken off properly, or if the process wasn't done right and the acrylics start popping off like popcorn. The lifting is also a problem, but that's if proper practices weren't done like pushing back cuticles or anything like that.

Now the dip powder is all right. It is much faster than acrylic because all you do is dip your finger after they apply some sort of base or glue. There is no overlay, you just literally dip your finger into the powder a few times and the color is on there. Unlike acrylic where all of your fingers get acrylic overlay, then you have to have it filed and shaped, and then painted, and put on the design. With dip they file and shape your nails before then they just do the dip and just make sure it's not too thick. Then they do a top coat and you're done. They can do designs on dipped nails too. And the dip is just as hard as the acrylic when it dries. A bit more pliable but sturdy too. Removal is easy. Foil, cotton balls, some acetone, and it dissolves because its just powder with nothing mixed in, so it just melts like butter for the most part. The dip powder is also supposed to have some vitamins in it that make your nails grow fast, and boy did my nails grow fast.

The only downside to it I found was that it lifted a lot easier, and I ended up lifting off six of them before I went back to the nail salon. With acrylic I've never lifted any of them, they usually just popped off on their own.

So for me acrylic is the better choice because it doesn't lift as easy, and they are much more durable for me. But it really depends on the person and what suits them, so try both out and see which one works best!
