How I Got Rid of My Facial Scar

My Experience with Laser Resurfacing

One day I woke up and realized I needed to try something new!

When I was fifteen I was bitten by a dog. Sadly, it left a big scar about two inches on my chin and I was self-conscious about it for YEARS. I always felt like it was the first thing people saw when they looked at me. It was something that always ate away at me and my self-image.

Now I'm twenty-one years old and I couldn't stand that there was absolutely nothing that I could do to get my scar to look better. I tried all the scar gels, creams, and oils. Really, I tried everything that I could possibly get my hands on and nothing made a difference!

I started then trying to research about laser resurfacing treatments for acne scars, keloid scars, and basically any type of scar. Although it always seemed like it was way too expensive and not in my budget. So for years, I let it go thinking it was out of my reach.

I could not have been more wrong!

After finally thinking I had no other choice and days of research, I contacted a local plastic surgery office downtown and decided to set up a free consultation with their laser technician. To be honest, I was scared out of my mind. I am a college student and still trying to get my life together, so intimidation was definitely something I was feeling while waiting to get greeted.

After meeting with the laser tech, who was extremely sweet and friendly, I followed her to a room off to the side of the office. She calmly asked me what I was looking for and I explained that I wanted to try laser resurfacing on my scar. I just needed something that would help with redness, irritation, and also the appearance. She quickly told me that there were treatments we could do and that they would only take a couple minutes and we could start that day!

Great! I was so happy to find out I could start my journey to feeling better and hopefully put this worry about myself behind me. What about the money aspect though? Was this actually something I could afford?

While I was researching laser resurfacing and their price ranges, a lot of them were in the $1,000 and up range. That was for a whole face treatment so I figured it would definitely be a chunk out of my wallet. Warily, I asked her how much the treatment would cost. I had put about two hundred away for this so I was hoping it would be around my price range. However, she said it would only be fifty dollars a treatment! I was shocked. I always thought that anything that had to do with a plastic surgeon office would have at least been a hundred dollars. This was definitely something I could afford and I know others can as well!

I set up to do five treatments, one a month, of the laser resurfacing to help reduce the appearance of the scar. During the treatment, what happens is the laser shaves off the top layers of skin so that way new layers of skin can form. Also, this allows collagen in the skin to rebuild itself!

There is a period where the treated area will need to heal since this is a laser being used. It is close to having a small burn afterward, so you need to be very careful. It takes about a week with no makeup and layering the area with some non-scented and paragon free sunscreen before it's okay to wear makeup again. This may sound a little scary but if you keep up on skin protection from the sun and have a good skin care regimen while doing this treatment, you are sure to see some results!

Now, let's talk about how it feels. My laser technician didn't use a numbing cream since it was such a small area. The best way I have heard of describing it is like a rubber band snapping against your skin. Which can be very uncomfortable, but don't let that scare you! If you are getting laser resurfacing on a large portion of your face then they will be using a numbing agent and in many cases, you will be sedated.

Results were almost immediate for me. After five months and five treatments of laser resurfacing, my scar is already less noticeable and smoother! I feel more confident about myself and it even helped with the flexibility of the area around my scar. I would recommend this treatment to anyone who has tried all their options out there and are struggling to see some results.

If you are wondering about how to get help for a scar that is hurting your confidence, I encourage you to go check out and definitely do some research about laser resurfacing in your area. It’s affordable and has been the best option for me personally getting real results.
