Once upon a time maintaining perfect skin was easy. Your skin shone with a youthful vibrancy, and bounced back with elastic ease. Many wonderful changes happen as we age, but the natural aging process is also met with its own set of complications. One of the biggest physical changes that occurs with aging is the transformation of skin. Fortunately it is possible to retain a youthful glow by keeping your skin vibrant and glowing at any age. Follow these tips to achieve an ageless complexion that is sure to be the cause of admiration.

Diet and Hydration

Regardless of age, your skin simply won’t look its best if you are not staying fully hydrated and consuming the right foods. First and foremost, it’s absolutely essential to consume a minimum of eight glasses of water a day to avoid unwanted side effects. Dehydration can cause the skin to lack water and essential oils, which can cause you skin to look dry, flaky, and wrinkled. To achieve smooth and healthy skin, always stay adequately hydrated.

Diet and lifestyle also plays a huge factor in skin health. To obtain a youthful complexion, it is highly beneficial to cut out certain foods that ruin skin. Cut out soda, fried foods, alcohol, foods that rank high on the glycemic index, foods that are high in sugar, salty snacks, processed meats, and energy drinks. This means no donuts, white rice, candy, chips, white bread, and sweetened drinks.

Lifestyle Changes

Along with your diet, lifestyle changes are necessary in order to give yourself all the proper elements needed to earn perfect skin. If you are a smoker, it’s critical to kick the bad habit immediately. Not only does smoking jeopardize your health, but It can cause premature skin aging, sagging, psoriasis, acne inverse, skin cancer, and other harmful and negative changes.

Other lifestyle alterations include reducing stress and obtaining enough sleep. Stress is not only mentally and physically unhealthy, but it can also lead to uncomfortable cosmetic issues. Stress is known to aggravate eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. It also can lead to rashes, flare-ups, hives, and fever blisters. The stress that these conditions create can then exacerbate the issue, and lead to more problems. Additionally, sleep is an essential element to health and skin treatment. Sleep deprivation leads to an increase in the stress hormone cortisol, which can lead to increased bodily inflammation that can damage skin quality.

Needle Treatments

While diet and lifestyle adjustments are needed for achieving your best complexion, sometimes the damage of the years need a little extra help getting erased. One of the best processes for giving your skin a youthful transformation is microneedling. Microneedling involves inserting very fine, short needles into the skin to create tiny injuries that will allow the body to promote healing and the production of collagen and elastin. This allows the skin to plump up, greatly improving scarring, fine lines, and wrinkling.

Another treatment that involves needles to allow skin to appear younger is botox. Cosmetic botox provides temporary smoothing of certain lines. However, the injections will need to be regularly maintained in order to avoid the effects of the treatment wearing off. Additionally, botox is known to restrict facial expression, though it can be the saving grace for fine lines.

Moisturize and Protect

An essential step one must always take in order to protect the integrity of their skin is to wear SPF daily. It cannot be stressed enough that even if the sky appears overcast, even minor sun exposure can cause sun damage. In addition to increasing skin cancer risk, sun damage can cause premature wrinkles, dark spots, and overall problematic skin. Therefore it's important to never use a tanning bed if you wish to achieve healthy and youthful skin. To make applying SPF easier to remember, consider getting a daily moisturizer with SPF in it. Talk to your dermatologist to discuss what level SPF is best for your skin.

Different people have different skin types, so what might work for your friend might not be best for you. Work on finding a skin care routine that works best with your specific complexion, whether it is dry, oily, or anything in between. One element of a proper skin care routine that shouldn’t go neglected is having a different moisturizer for day and night. While you’re sleeping, your body is performing a lot of overall repair work. In order to boost cell regeneration, and optimize the chance for your skin to repair and heal, it’s highly beneficial to always end your nightly routine with a nighttime moisturizer. Remember to always be gentle with your skin, and be consistent with your skincare routine in order to see the best results.
