A Review of the Zodiac Collection

The Zodiac Collection, a collaboration with Youtuber and beauty influencer Kathleenlights and the brand Colourpop, consists of seven items, a 12-pan eyeshadow palette, two Super Shock Highlighters, two crème Lux Lipsticks, and two Super Nova Liquid Shadows—all Zodiac themed.

The Zodiac Palette

The Zodiac Eyeshadow palette comes with 12 different shades, all named after the Zodiac signs, and a large mirror. The component itself is a midnight blue on the outside, with the star constellations that match those signs of Kathleenlights. The inside of the palette is black with gold stars, and the names of the shadows are underneath each shade.

“The Aries” is a bright orange shade with a subtle shimmer to it. “The Taurus” is a matte, cool-toned, light brown shade. “The Gemini” is a shimmering gold shade. “The Cancer” is a pale, champagne pink shade that has a subtle shimmer. “The Leo” is a bold, darker gold shimmer shade. “The Virgo” is a deep, matte brown shade that has a hint of black in it. “The Libra” is a soft, dusty mauve, matte shade. “The Virgo” is a maroon shade with shimmer and a subtle undertone of purple. “The Sagittarius” is a deeper maroon, matte shade. “The Capricorn” is a shimmer shade that has a black base and gold glitter flecks. “The Aquarius” is a royal blue matte shade. “The Pisces” is a shimmering teal shade.

In her video revealing the collection, Kathleenlights speaks to why and how she chose each shade for each sign. There were many comments overall both agreeing and disagreeing with her shade choices, but overall the audience seemed to be fine with her choices.

The shadows in the palette are of great quality, in my opinion. Colourpop is an extremely affordable brand, with this palette costing only $18. Upon first glance, I was worried about incorporating the bright teal and orange into my makeup routine, but there is no success in comfort!

The Super Shock Highlighters

The two Super Shock Highlighters are called “Fire” and “On the Cusp.” The components are a midnight blue color, similar to that of the eyeshadow palette. My favorite of the two is “On the Cusp” because this shade, being a champagne-colored shade, is suitable for my skin tone. “Fire” is suitable on more medium to deep skin tones and it is a lovely gold shade that has a sort-of pink undertone. Colourpop’s Super Shock Highlighters are some of my favorite affordable highlighters. The formula is not powdery and provides such a beautiful shine to the cheeks and other highlighted areas of the face and body. Each Super Shock Highlighter is $8.

The Lux Lipsticks

The two crème Lux Lipsticks come in the same component as the regular Lux Lipsticks—a rose-gold cylindrical container with stars on the top and bottom. The lipsticks themselves are also stamped with stars on the sides. Each Lux Lipstick is priced at $7. The shade “What’s Your Sign?” is a warm, pink nude. This is my “your lips, but better” shade. “Scorpio Moon” is a mauve, almost rose-toned shade. I find that, with different lip liners, “Scorpio Moon” can sometimes lean more purple and can sometimes stain the lips. Just something to be aware of!

The Super Nova Liquid Shadows

The last part of the collection is the two Super Nova Liquid Eyeshadows in “Astrology” and “Constellation.” I have limited experience with liquid eyeshadows and have found Kathleen’s initial reveal video very helpful when it comes to learning how to apply them and their working time on the eyelids. “Astrology” is a gold shade and “Constellation” is a rose gold, almost pink-toned shade. Both are very glittery. When using these, you must work quickly because in the short amount of time it takes them to dry down, they will not budge after! I found that working in small sections with the applicator that comes in the liquid shadows was what worked best for me. These shadows did start to flake after a few hours, so again, something to be aware of! A small price to pay when each liquid eyeshadow is only $7.

Final Thoughts

This is a limited-edition collection and is currently all still available on the Colourpop website. As a whole bundle, the collection is $59, which is a savings of $3, if you were to buy everything separately. I believe that this collection is worth your money. Most anything that Colourpop puts out is worth the money because they are so affordable! My favorite item from the collection is the Lux Lipstick in “What’s Your Sign?” because I am a definite nude lip kind of girl!
