More people become enraptured by the idea of natural and organic products every day. At the same time, we see fashion trying to send us out into the reaches of the cosmos (remember Galaxy leggings?). As we crave simplicity, we throw ourselves into the future. The beauty industry has noticed this lifestyle trend, and that's why we're going to see the following makeup trends in 2018.

Beauty trends don't come out of nowhere; they take inspiration from real life. In recent years, consumers have gained awareness about what kind of chemicals and other ingredients are in their makeup. If you look at any list of all natural hair products, for example, you'll find that sulfates and parabens are to be avoided at all costs. Parabens, which can potentially harm your hormone levels, are one of the no-no ingredients for the wave of so-called "clean" cosmetics that will take over in 2018.

Juice Beauty boasts many clean makeup products, including the phyto-pigments last looks blush.

The cat eye really never went away, but it is slated to be one of the big makeup trends in 2018. Fashion weeks from 2017 showed many models, such as those walking for Marc Jacobs, pulling off various versions of the cat eye or winged liner.

The best makeup tool to use for this kind of eye is a precision, felt-tip brush with liquid liner. This Urban Decay fine-point liner is a great vegan option.

Of course, you can use shimmery eyeshadow however you like, but one of the biggest beauty trends in 2018 will be the eye corner shimmer. Take any glittery color eyeshadow—preferably a lighter color—and make your eyes really pop by dabbing it on the inner corners. This look will make your eyes shine brighter than ever. Moondust Eyeshadow by Urban Decay is a wonderful line of shimmery shadows that comes in many colors.

2017's New York Fashion Week saw the emergence of one of the more bold new makeup trends in 2018: Brushstroke eyeliner. In contrast to the precision of cat eyeliner, brushstroke eyeliner embraces a thicker, less finessed look. It is meant to evoke the sensation that makeup is an art form, and the face a canvas.

For best results when trying to create the brushstroke liner look, try Marc Jacobs's Highliner Gel Crayon.

The nail accent stripe trend is a perfect example of minimalism at work in the beauty trends of 2018. In place of the subtle, gentle French manicure is a more bold, yet more simplistic option. Instead of opting for the more intricate designs, of say, a flower painted on your nail, the line accent requires much less work. However, it offers a much more striking look.

Face jewels are usually only associated with Bollywood or costume designs, but they are creeping into the mainstream to claim the title of one of the major makeup trends in 2018. Like putting shimmery eyeshadow in the corner of the eye, embellished eyes are meant to draw attention to the intensity of a person's gaze. It's a bedazzling technique that high fashion actually loves.

Remember how we said that 2018 will be a huge balancing act between simplistic and outrageous? Wearing clear lip gloss with embellished eyes is certainly one of those beautiful contradictions. As powerful colors and shine pique people's interest, so too does the concept of returning to a nude lip. Beauty is all about knowing how to pull off the right amount of contrast; where the wow factor should go and the place for subtlety. Clear lip gloss, like this product from NARS, gives a fresh, clean, bare look, while still providing some va-va-voom.

Combine the outrageous with the everyday with a holographic, glitter glow. When you do your contouring, consider using a shimmer stick to make the highlights of your face all the brighter. This is one of the makeup trends in 2018 that will absolutely skyrocket in popularity. Add some magic and sparkle to your daily glow.

Upside down eyeliner started catching on amongst celebs in 2017, but it is expected to hit mainstream beauty culture hard in 2018.

Traditionally, color eyeshadow is visible on the top lid of the eye and eyeliner is most visible on the bottom lid. When this set up is reversed, the color on the bottom lid creates a mesmerizing gaze you can't break free of. All you need is a color eyeliner that has a smudger on the other end of the stick. Apply the color eyeliner first, then blur it with the smudger for a more hazy look.

99 percent of women run away from a mascara they think will create thick, clumped lashes. However, this look just so happens to be one of the makeup trends in 2018 that will reign supreme.

Inspired by the 60s trend, 2018 will see people trying to clump their eyelashes for a Twiggy-esque look, rather than finely separating each lash. To do it yourself, get a mascara that is a heavy volumizer, like the Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara from Maybelline New York.
