My Recommended Lipsticks

A Selection of Five

Now, if you know me, you'd probably know that I own a hell of a lot of lipstick. I mean I own a TON of lipstick. There are good lipsticks, there are bad lipsticks, and there are lipsticks that you wear all the time regardless of which clothes you're wearing. If you've seen my other article, you'd know that my skin is pretty sensitive and has been pretty much harnessed and ruined by various vitamin deficiencies. This means that my lips are almost greying, they peel really easily, and they have various cuts on them from time to time. But, if you look at my profile photo—you can't see them. This is because though I may own a lot of lipsticks, I choose them very carefully. I choose them based on their:

  • Shade
  • Style
  • Coverage
  • How long it lasts

So let's go through my five favourite lipsticks that offer all this and so much more. There aren't any negative reviews here because these are, after all, my favourites. So don't expect me to be harsh about any of these really, I will, though, offer some "cons" if there are any.

5. Maybellene Lipstick by Gigi Hadid

Maybelline Lipstick by Gigi Hadid is one of the best lipsticks I've ever used because of the great shades and the coverage it gives. It stays on forever and it isn't difficult to take off. No rubbing or scrubbing is required, just one swift wipe and it's gone. However, it doesn't come off easily when you're wearing it either. It lasts and lasts—you may just require the right make-up remover (which is Elizabeth Arden obviously).

The best shade, in my opinion, (as in the link) is called "Erin"—it is a slight dark purple matte shade with a lovely coverage to it. It makes the lips look plump and radiant without drying up or remaining sticky. It offers a good smoothness normally not seen by Maybelline lipsticks, so I was very much surprised.

Pros: A great lipstick for the everyday with a brilliant range of shades. I had to admit, before I bought this lipstick, I didn't know Gigi Hadid was (and really, I still forget) but her lipsticks are very nice, so thank you, Ms. Hadid. The best thing about this lipstick is that it lasts and lasts, normally something not common of a matte lipstick.

Cons: The colour can be quite light. If you want a dark colour or a bold colour, this lipstick may not be the way to go.

4. Rimmel Lipstick by Kate Moss

The Kate Moss range of lipsticks is, to me, to die for. There are so many shades and so much exploration in the collection to do that it's all about trying out your favourite colours, looking at the shades, and getting your favourite style. Kate Moss's lipsticks have a slight shine to them and offer brilliant coverage with a bold colour to your lips.

"True Red" is my personal favourite shade because it offers a very bold, bright red to your lips with a slight shine effect to go with it. It's not matte, but there's a nice coverage to it as well—however, it isn't glossy either. It has a brilliant balance between the two.

Pros: Gloss and matte balanced together with a nice slight shine and some great shades makes this lipstick amazing. It is long lasting and yet isn't difficult to take off. It's a nice lipstick to wear every day and also it's a great lipstick to wear in the evening. Just choose your shade!

Cons: Can feel a little bit sticky when first applied, but just wait. Also, be careful because some chains sell this lipstick at a high price—so make sure you shop around for the best one.

3. Moisture Renew Lipstick by Rimmel London

This lipstick is one of my favourites; I wear it on all occasions, from everyday to the supermarket—to parties and weddings. It is the perfect lipstick to accompany anywhere you'll be for a long, long time. Why? Well because it lasts so long without renewing it. There's a clue to the lipstick in the name—it locks moisture into your lips so that when you're wearing it your lips don't dry out and therefore, the lipstick doesn't dry up. It's one of the best lipsticks I have ever tried.

My favourite shade is called "Diva Red" and I must have about five or six of this shade alone because of the amount of times I wear it in the week. The best thing about this lipstick is that it's nice and glossy whilst not being sticky AND renewing moisture to your lips. There are a multitude of shades to choose from and some places do this lipstick really cheap. So either buy on Amazon, or go to your make-up market and try to find one!

Pros: Brilliant coverage, great colours, and it lasts so long. This lipstick is a brilliant way to highlight the fact that your make-up taste is classy and you know what you wear. I would highly recommend the shades in dark red and bright pink—they just look so good.

Cons: Obviously, I can't find any—but hopefully you won't either!

2. Rouge Velvet Lipstick by Bourjois

This lipstick is one of my go-to pieces of make-up for long lasting and classy evening/dinner wear. My favourite shade is a bold red and I love the way it makes your makeup stand out. If you're going to wear this, I would make sure the rest of your makeup is quite light because the colour can be very, very bold once it dries. The best part about it is that it doesn't feel like you're wearing any lipstick at all. It's very lightweight, but it's still bold as hell.

My favourite shade is Personne Ne Rouge because of its loud, bold, and brash red look. It's the "classic" red that is possibly the most popular shade of lipstick ever. The bold red classic colour mixed with the long lasting and anti-drying attributes of this product make it all the better to wear on a long night/evening out.

Pros: Long-lasting, not too wet, but also doesn't dry up, has a wide range of colours available and much more, making this one of my personal favourite lipsticks in the whole world. I also know a lot of other people who wear this lipstick. No regrets ever!

Cons: The shades are quite bold, so if you don't like bold lip colours then I suggest looking at number 5 on this list instead.

1. The Only 1 Lipstick (Matte) by Rimmel London

This is clearly my favourite lipstick in the world. I wear it to the supermarket, I wear it to dinner, and I've even worn it to a wedding party. I have owned various lipsticks over time but this has to be my favourite ever. Why? Well it's because it lasts super long and I don't need to renew it for hours and hours on end. It it a beautiful matte in style and so I can apply lip gloss atop of it if I want a different look, but mostly I stick to the lipstick. The shape of the head is slightly different because the slant isn't that big, which means the lipstick is easier to apply and shape. Finally, the colour range is incredible. Have I said enough? No, I didn't think so.

My favourite shade of this lipstick is called "Take the Stage"—it's a beautiful rich red colour and the best part about it is it's matte. The matte look is totally in at the moment and be that as it may, this lipstick offers maximum coverage with a long-lasting matte effect for any time of day. Personally, I like wearing this lipstick on the day-to-day, mainly because it's so easy to apply.

Pros: It has maximum coverage from first application so you don't need to use a lot of it. The way it lasts means that if you're going out to dinner, you probably won't need it in your handbag. Thirdly, there is absolutely no worries that when it dries, it'll come off on your glass too much! It just doesn't stain that easy and that's awesome.

Cons: Be careful, it can be a bit more difficult to remove because of the way it's applied. You only need one layer for maximum coverage so I recommend the Elizabeth Arden make-up remover in order to take this off without scrubbing.
