Six Ways to Make Your Skin Glow

Tips for Taking Better Care of Your Skin

Beauty tips focus on all sorts of areas, your hair, your figure, your muscles, the list goes on. But from pedicures to manicures, the focal point of all your beauty is your face. There’s quite a bit of information on why facial skin is different from the skin on the rest of your body— what they’re all really trying to get at is that your face deserves special care. Here are a few of the top tips for healthy, glowing skin:

1. Vitamin C and Healthy Fats

The health of your facial skin is tied to your immune system. When your immune system is feeling down, your body signals as much on your face. Fruits and vegetables, like blueberries and sweet potato, are high in Vitamin C and will keep your immune system healthy and your face glowing. Find a way to cut back on the unhealthy fats, added sugars, and preservatives. Your heart, figure, and skin will be all the more healthy for it.

2. Stay Hydrated

For the best healthy skin, women should be shooting for more than nine cups of water a day. Most men need to be drinking even more than that. Your facial skin needs water even more than it needs vitamins. There are lots of tips and tricks on how to get yourself into a daily habit of drinking more water. Whatever method you use, just be sure to spread out your water intake over your day, and remember, it’s about habit. Other benefits of drinking lots of water include increased energy, a leg up in weight loss, a stronger immune system, and a better mood.

3. Essential Oil Massages

Yeah, you all saw this one coming. But, it turns out that essential oil enthusiasts, like D Gary Young, really do know some things about health, and especially facial health. For glowing skin, apply carrot seed, lavender, lemongrass, tea tree, or monoi oil. When you massage these oils into your face, use upward strokes, especially around your forehead, cheeks, and jaw. These oils moisturize your skin and protect your from bacteria. They can even help with acne. Consider adding lavender to your nightly cleanse routine, lavender helps with falling asleep as well.

4. Daily Cleanse

No, wiping your makeup off isn’t enough. Nighttime is the perfect time to cleanse your skin because 1) you can work it into your pre-bed routine and 2) night is one of the times your face is most vulnerable to damage. Have you ever woken up to find a new zit on your face? That’s because all of the bacteria leftover from the day before gets all night to infect your pores. Use a cleanser and exfoliant every morning and every night so the bacteria can never stay long enough to do any damage.

5. Mind the Seasons

How you take care of your face depends on the season. In the winter, you may need extra moisturizer to keep your skin from getting dry. In the summer, you’ll need to protect your skin from getting damaged by the sun. Spring and fall both bring allergy seasons that you might need to be aware of. Pay attention to your skin’s needs. Once you know what they are you can rotate your skin care around just like your winter and summer fashions.

6. Quick, Cool Showers

Hot showers are wonderful after a long day, but they aren’t the best for your skin. Bacteria thrive in warm environments. On top of that hot water can even strip your face of its healthy oils, causing your skin to dry out. Either get some good facial oil to use after the shower or take a quick, cool shower. Cool showers not only improve your blood circulation, which improves your skin, but they also have been noted to increase mental health, promote weight loss, and other benefits.
