The Low-Down on Liquid Peel

Review of Body Shop's Drops of Light Liquid Peel

Ever heard of a skin peel? It's a kind of beauty treatment often associated with salons and spas

If you're like me, you find the idea a little alarming, then you've probably never tried one. Why would I want to peel my skin off? It sounds extreme and unpleasant, like the aftermath of a sunburn burn.

But then a friend of mine became a Body Shop Home Consultant. She's a normal woman, with a normal, busy life. She's a mum, a vet, and a farmer's wife, so she doesn't have time for the kind of beauty routine that leaves her looking like she just stepped off the catwalk. But she looks after her skin and has a gorgeous healthy glow. I can identify with her and I'm not intimidated by a photoshoot-perfect visage every time I see her.

So when she posted a video of herself using a Body Shop product called Body Shop Drops of Light Liquid Peel, I was intrigued.

Quick and Easy

I watched as she quickly massaged a few drops over her face to show the quick easy process and the amazing results.

And it isn't just for your face.

My friend posted pictures of her husband's feet before and after having Liquid Peel applied to them. They became beautiful, glowing and smooth. (As an aside, I was at university with her husband, and there's no one in my acquaintance that I'd have thought was less likely to submit to a beauty treatment... it's amazing what love can achieve!)

When my friend offered me a sample of the Liquid Peel, I jumped at the chance. I couldn't wait to try it for myself.

Trying It Out

The Drops of Light Liquid Peel is a light liquid a bit runnier than shower gel. It had a faint, pleasantly clean scent that was far from the strong acidic smell I'd feared. I began to doubt that it would work. How could anything that smelled that nice possible peel my skin?

Massaging a little onto my face, I was amazed as blobs of impurities formed under my fingers. It was like magic! There was no burning or stinging, just soft, smooth skin being revealed beneath, and the little blobs of the stuff that was being removed. I felt a slight tingle in my eyes from the vapour, so I was very careful to keep the liquid peel itself away from my eyes.

After the first use, my face already felt softer and smoother, and my skin looked more even, even though I hadn't ever thought of it as uneven skin tone.

So far so good. Time to bring out the big guns.

Confession time: I have terrible feet.

I'm less flexible than your average human, so it's hard for me to get close to my toes even to put socks on, let alone care for them properly.

Add to that some hard skin on the tops of my feet, callouses on the bottom, and chronic athletes foot, and I had started to hate my feet.

It was time to tackle them. Leaning down to swirl circles of liquid peel into my soles, the transformation was incredible. The dry, dead skin was smoothed away with minimal effort. I worked it enthusiastically all over each foot, making sure I didn't miss anywhere. There was something really satisfying and compulsive about the process; it was strangely enjoyable, and I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I'd squeegeed the last of the Liquid Peel from the sample pot with my finger,

I jumped in the shower to rinse my feet and face, which only took a moment. The impurities, plus any remaining liquid washes away with very little effort.

The Results

For the first time in years, I could feel the mosaic tiles on the shower floor so clearly that I could almost count each tile through my soles. The liquid peel had sloughed away so much of the old, dry, dead skin that I suddenly had sensation that I didn't know I'd lost! I stepped out of the shower onto the bath mat - the soft, fluffy bath mat that I could feel from heel to toe.

It's important to moisturise afterward, so I quickly smoothed some cream over my face and feet. Done. Glowing, healthy skin. The effect lasted for several days too, which is a definite bonus.

Long-Lasting Results

The skin on my face looks and feels younger and healthier.

Best of all, the liquid peel has done for my athlete's foot what no amount of over-the-counter or medicated creams, powders and sprays have managed. It seems to have got rid of it. Seriously. I'm writing this about five weeks later, having used nothing but a little paranoid talc on my toes and for once the itchy curse hasn't recurred. I'm absolutely overjoyed!

The Verdict

Overall, this is a fantastic product. It was so easy and pleasant (compulsive!) to use. There was no stickiness, no residue, no fuss. Moisturise after you've rinsed, and you're done!

There's something really mesmerising about using it, the way my skin softened and smoothed as those little balls of dead skin formed under my fingers. I placed an order for my own bottle straight away, and I've been telling everyone about it ever since!

If you buy one skincare product, make it Body Shop Liquid Peel Drops of Light, you won't regret it.

*I'm not affiliated with The Body Shop in any way, and my friend isn't paying me for the article. The free sample was given without the expectation of any review at all, only so that I could try the product for myself, it's just so good I had to spread the word! All opinions expressed are my own, based on my experience of using this product.*
