Though appearance may not be the number one priority of many individuals, many of us strive to put our best face forward on a daily basis. While experimentation with fashion can help you discover and embrace your unique style and personal modes of expression, there are common physical areas that cause many people persistent discomfort. Today I’m going to discuss three areas of physical appearance that many people struggle with maintaining, as well as solutions to how to overcome these persistent problems.

Persistent Belly Bloat

Though you might be one of the rare individuals who have a speedy metabolism (and don’t lose it when you age!), many people struggle with a little extra belly bloat. Whether you’re squirming your way into your skinny jeans, trying to breathe in a bikini, or looking to avoid having to suck in every time someone takes a full body photo, there are steps you can take to reduce belly bloat in order to feel and look your best. For best results, be sure to have a healthy diet, drink plenty of fluids, and exercise regularly. However, there are also changes you can make to conquer belly bloat on a daily basis.

If you have a big day coming up or an important event or photo opportunity, fear not. You can cut the belly bloat by following some simple steps. First, avoid constipation at all costs by eating plenty of fiber and drinking plenty of fluids. If you think cutting food and drinks will help you look thinner, you might unwittingly be setting yourself up for constipation bloat. However, you can cut down on carbonated drinks and salt consumption to avoid bloat. It’s also important to eat slowly and chew thoroughly to avoid swallowing too much air. To avoid consuming extra air, also cut out chewing gum. Sugar alcohol, which can be found in artificially sweetened foods, can also lead to bloat. Overall it helps to eat smaller portioned meals more frequently, and of course, to not consume gassy vegetables such as beans before a big event.

Thinning and Balding Hair

Another area that many feel insecure about, especially as they age, is hair health. Thinning and balding hair affects both males and females and can greatly erode one’s sense of self-esteem. In serious cases, stress over hair loss can even keep individuals from participating in their daily lives. And while males are the sex commonly associated with balding, females can experience hair loss just as well. Fortunately, there are options that combat hair loss, such as vitamins for hair, that will set you on track to having enviable locks.

To understand how to treat hair loss, it’s important to know why it happens in the first place. A variety of factors, including genetics, stress, medications, overstyling, aging, and diet, can contribute to hair loss. Fortunately, many cases of hair loss are temporary, and there are vitamins that both men and women can take in order to combat loss. Some of the best supplements for healthy hair are B-complex vitamins, zinc, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, folic acid, amino acids, and essential fatty acids. If you notice your hair thinning or balding in certain areas, be sure to load up on beneficial vitamin supplements, as well as monitor a variety of your daily habits to work on determining the root cause of your hair issues.

Damaged and Oily Skin

Are you happy with your complexion? If the answer is “yes,” they you can just go ahead and skip this section! However, if you’re like most people, there is likely some aspect of your skin you would like to change. From wrinkles to scars to acne and oil, there are many areas of complaint when it comes to trying to have a clear complexion. Well, the first thing that you can do to achieve healthier skin is to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day. You simply aren’t going to have vibrant, healthy skin if there isn’t enough water in your diet.

When it comes to dealing with scars, there are many solutions on the market. It’s always best to begin treating damaged skin as early as possible. Helpful natural solutions such as coconut oil, vitamin E oil, and aloe vera can aid with damaged skin. You can also look into scar serums and creams, dark spot creams, and laser surgery options if you have the funds. To reduce the appearance of wrinkles and have an overall more youthful appearance, be sure to use separate day and night face creams. Nighttime creams should promote healing, since your skin does a lot of repair work while you sleep. Witch hazel is a product that works great for oily skin and acne, but in some cases, medical intervention is needed to combat breakouts. If you have concerns about your breakouts, talk to your medical doctor or dermatologist about possibly getting on a prescription to fight acne.

Remember that it’s important to accept yourself as is. No one is perfect, and it is your flaws that make you truly unique. However, if you are dissatisfied with your appearance, there is no reason why you can’t make changes to improve areas that lower your self-esteem. Just remember that fixing your looks won’t change your personality or fix all of your problems, and it’s always important to emphasize health when it comes to self-care.
