Top 5 Eyeshadow Palette Regrets vs. Delights

A Comparison

Disclaimer: My intention is not hurt your fan hood sentiments. So if makeup brands break your bread, so to speak, then perhaps this is not the post for you. I have absolutely nothing against these brands or their “faces” whatsoever. I personally did not get my money’s worth out of these eyeshadow palettes for one reason or another. And all of these reasons have to do with the element of how they performed (application, weartime, blendibility) for me. Me, having oily, darkish skin tone.

The reason I am comparing is because my loves made me regret my regrets a bit more, then I would have without owning my loved palettes. Most of these palettes are limited edition (does that even matter anymore?).

TOP FIVE EP REGRETS vs TOP FIVE EP LOVES

Fenty Beauty Galaxy vs Pat McGrath La Vie En Rose

Reason(s) For Comparing (RFC):-

~I paid the same price for both (and yes I am aware of PM being a mini, but this is not about quantity, I am really indifferent to that aspect anyway).

~Both have women of colour behind them. Not important, but interesting to note.

~But I know who Rihanna is. I love her music. The expectations are high, just because of who she is. PM on the other hand, I was more cynical that perhaps it was just a hype but not really worth it.

~Both are limited edition palettes. FB went on sale quite soon after its release (much to my annoyance).

Conclusion: Fenty Beauty’s Galaxy palette did not work for me at all. In two hours in a -17C temp the makeup was coming off. Wear time fail. No, I did not use a primer, and for a shadow that applies well without a primer, should perform just as well (attn- at that price point). In contrast, I was completely blown away by PM’s shadow quality. It’s the best quality I’ve seen so far on all levels. Though PM’s string closure, is annoying, even if pretty.

Natasha Denona Sunset Mini vs Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions Mini

RFC:-

~Both are minis around the same price point.

~ Application, blendibility, and performance.

~User friendly packaging.

~Both are permanent palettes, I believe.

Conclusion: Both blended and performed well. But, in the beginning, sunset was problematic when applying. The shadows were packed so tightly, that the mattes (let alone the shimmers) would hardly get on to the brush. You really had to go in to such an extent, that an everyday user might have hit pan in a month. The other problem was the packaging. It was so weirdly tight, that it would require some effort to open, which was when I would end up damaging the eyeshadow with my nail. Though, after a while I could see that ND is generally good quality stuff, but the packaging in (all) her palettes leaves something to be desired.

With Huda, she’s not free of controversy. So I cannot support her from this point onwards. But being completely honest, I was super impressed with her mini electric palette. Sephora has limited options for a rainbow palette. And from all angles, I think it was the best one.

Tarte: Face and Eye I vs Unicorn

RFC:-

~Why not compare two products of the same brand?

~I bought both for similar prices, while both were on sale.

~Both no longer exist, discontinued (Face), and limited edition (Unicorn).

~Tarte performance for me is quite steady and reliable.

Conclusion: I got more use out of my unicorn palette over the face one. That is the only reason, I regret buying Tarte’s face and eye palette. The shade range in Tarte’s FE palette is so limited even for a neutral palette that it all looks the same after a while. Good quality stuff, but even a neutral palette has to have a bit of a shade range to give the ability to create a few versatile neutral looks.

Makeup Forever Volume 4 vs Natasha Denona Joya

RFC:-

~I don’t see much reason to compare these, except two.

~The only reason I bought both was because both went on sale.

~I had high hopes for MF, and none for ND. And the results were quite opposite.

Conclusion: MF is my first instant regret ever, or so I remember. It did not work for me at all. In contrast, I really love ND’s Joya palette (thanks to Tati, I got a discount).

Urban Decay Naked 2 vs Ciate London Chloe Morello Pretty, Fun, and Fearless

RFC:-

~Both are essentially what you’d call an everyday palette

Conclusion: I liked urban decay in the beginning for its quality. It was my first high-end palette, after all. But I soon got bored because it was literally variations of the same shade essentially. Such a waste, you wouldn’t be able to create many looks. But with CP’s (cheaper I believe) palette you can create berry, neutral, warm, darkish, and natural looks. Even for skin tones, it has a bit for everyone.

And there you have it, folks! We are done.

Honorable Mentions I love and use: Too Faced Peachy All Mattes, Juvia’s Place Masquerade, and a huge e.l.f palette

Honorable Regrets (what an oxymoron): Smashbox small palettes with the green shade, NYX colorful palette, and Stila Body palette.

Adieu mon ami.

XOXO
