We Tried Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit, and Here's What We Thought

I’m a total skincare addict and I’ve tried out so many types of skincare products out there. I don’t use skincare products to enhance my skin, but to improve my skin. Yes, there’s a fine line between the two. I have a couple of problems with my skin. Some are bearable and some make me just want to rip the skin right off of my face. I’m insanely insecure about my skin and I’m simply looking for products to help me out. Can’t a girl get a break from her terrible skin for once?

One of the main skin issues I've been living with for a pretty long time is having oily skin and large pores. You can basically see my pores from a mile away and the oily shine on my T-zone could blind someone. Oh, what highlighter am I wearing? Just my oily skin in shade disgusting. In all seriousness, I'm fed up with my skin. I've gone through countless facial masks, praying it'll get rid of my issues. I need to know how to care for my skin type. However, almost all of the masks that I've used either broke me out or didn't work at all. I felt utterly helpless at that point and assumed that there's nothing out there that will help me.

After researching just one more time, I came across a very familiar skincare brand—Peter Thomas Roth. I've read the reviews on their Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask and people were raving about this facial mask. At first, I was hesitant to buy it, but then I realized the skincare brand also has a facial mask kit, Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit, that features four other masks, including the mud mask for an amazing price! Then I immediately recalled a conversation with a few of my coworkers talking about their skin issues and I purchased the kit right there. I purchased it in hopes that the mud mask would help my skin problems and offer the other masks to my coworkers in hopes that it would help theirs, too! All we can say is that... we didn't expect the results.

When I came across Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit, I just had to check it out. The fact that it includes five different masks for just $75 shocked me. Peter Thomas Roth has some pretty high-end products, so this kit totally caught me by surprise. The entire kit is ideal for all skin types and comes with masks 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift, Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches, Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator, Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask, and Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer. They basically included their most popular masks in one kit and I couldn't be any more stoked.

Even though you're not getting the full packaging for each mask, you're still getting a decent size of them each for a fantastic price. Each mask focuses on specific skin issues, and that's what lured me into getting it. I knew my coworkers wanted to help their skin, and I wanted to do the same. We tested the masks twice within a week.

Before the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

Since the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask is in Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit, I had to try it out. I heard so many great reviews about it shrinking your pores and I wanted to test it out for myself. I have combination skin and it's usually oily around my T-zone. Since the mask is ideal for all skin types, this made me feel a bit more comfortable because I know it would be gentle on the skin... hopefully.

The mask is specifically designed to purify, decongest, and hydrate the face with an odorless Irish moor mud. It helps with pulling out any dirt, oil, and grim from the pores and leaving your face completely nourished. It’s also great for uneven texture, fine lines, and wrinkles.

This is me before trying on the mask. Yes, it's clear that I have an oily T-zone and this is the day after a night well spent—clearly I'm exhausted. However, this is my skin literally every day. My pores are massive, my face is oily in certain parts, and I have a really bad uneven skin tone. After reading all of the great reviews on the Irish Moor Mud mask, I had high expectations for the product in hopes that it would help my skin.

During the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

I was hesitant before trying on this mask because my face can't handle just any type of facial mask out there. I easily break out from a mask that my skin isn't familiar with. However, I had pretty high hopes for Peter Thomas Roth because I know they're an amazing skincare brand.

The mask is known to be very hydrating with moisture, vitamins, essential minerals, and a ton of potent antioxidant benefits. Believe it or not, it features a 9,000-year-old black moor Mud that was harvested by hand from the Irish countryside and mixed with hijiki seaweed, volcanic ash, and activated charcoal that’s meant to cleanse the skin while minimizing pore appearance as well as fine lines and wrinkles. The mask has a lot to offer and I was more than ready to take it all in.

A little goes a long way with this mask, and I'm being serious. You don't need too much product to cover your entire face, which means this mask will last you a pretty long time. The consistency was thick, obviously, because it's a mud mask. While I was wearing the mask, I didn't feel any tingly sensations, burning, cooling, or anything like that. It genuinely felt like I was wearing mud on my face. There wasn't really a smell to it, either, which is usually a plus because I hate masks that have a very strong scent.

After The Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

When I was removing the mask, it actually took me a long time. Even though the directions mentioned to remove the facial mask with a damp cloth, I still used just my hands to rinse my face. Since it was a mud mask, you bet I had to go over my face a couple of times and took about five minutes. However, it didn't give off any cool feeling after taking it off like the many facial masks I used in the past.

What really struck me was how smooth my face was after using the Irish Moor Mud mask. It was literally baby smooth! I couldn't believe it! My pores actually shrunk, my face wasn't so oily, and my skin tone was properly balanced out. These were the results after trying it out just one time! When I tried it the second time, my face was actually looking better. I even had a couple of pimples and the facial mask minimized their sizes.

From my experience, the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask is an amazing mask, and I'm not surprised because Peter Thomas Roth creates amazing products. Even though I have combination skin, this mask is perfect for all skin types. We certainly need to get hydration back into our skin. But even if you have oily skin, it yearns for vitamins and nutrients. That's what this facial mask is created for—to make our skin look vibrant and feel baby-soft again!

Before the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer

When I offered the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit to Kelsey, she was thrilled. She has oily, acne-prone skin, so she usually uses exfoliating masks to help her skin out. Despite previously going through multiple types of masks and being disappointed, she had high expectations for this one.

Kelsey wears makeup pretty often, and she's always on the lookout for skincare products that will allow her makeup to sit on her skin flawlessly. Who doesn't?

The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask provides three different types of exfoliation which are enzymatic, chemical, and manual. All of these are formulated to improve the appearance of a dull, aging, and congested complexion. Exfoliators work so well for people with acne-prone skin because you're gently scrubbing and getting rid of the dead skin cells and oils that are building up on the skin.

During the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer

The first thing that Kelsey immediately noticed while wearing the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask was that the smell was quite strong. She described the smell to be like "pumpkin pie," which is something definitely different when it comes to a facial mask.

The mask's main ingredient, pumpkin enzyme, is there to help smooth the skin’s surface while providing that “pumpkin pie” fragrance. The alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) chemically exfoliates the skin to reveal a fresher, youthful-looking appearance. The aluminum oxide crystals help with physical exfoliation to polish the skin and rejuvenate the appearance of a dull complexion.

While Kelsey was wearing the mask, she realized that it was a bit tingly in the beginning. She noted that it wasn't anything too unbearable and it gradually faded after a couple of minutes.

After the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer

After wearing the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit for about six minutes and rinsing it off, Kelsey noticed her skin feeling super soft—soft to the point where she couldn't stop touching her face! However, the real surprise was how radiant her skin was looking. Her skin was smooth and even the appearance of her pores minimized tremendously.

Even though this is an exfoliating mask, it didn't help with shrinking the appearance of pimples or did any help with hyper pigmentation.

Kelsey found that after using the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, her makeup applied on amazingly and that's one of the things she's searching for in a facial mask. The exfoliator made her skin feel soft and smooth to the touch and it wasn't harsh on her skin at all. It was pretty gentle at exfoliating and getting rid of dead skin cells, minimizing pores, and giving her a stunning natural glow to her oily skin.

However, Kelsey makes a note that this facial mask isn't the best for people who are sensitive to strong fragrances. It's also best used for people with combination to oily skin because this mask might be a bit drying to people with dry or sensitive skin. If you do though, just be sure you know the best makeup tips for sensitive skin.

"I would suggest this mask for people with oily skin! It feels great on the skin, and helps give that glowy look without looking oily."

Before the 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm

Danielle has combination skin with an oily T-zone and she usually uses a charcoal mask to clean out her pores. Sounds like she knows what to use to make her skin clear up! She uses a retinol cream and washes her face with a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide, which can often make her skin sensitive. At her prime age of 27, she's noticed that she's developed fine lines around her eyes. After hearing this, I knew exactly which facial mask to offer her—the 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift and Firm from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit.

This luxurious facial mask is known as a firming and lifting treatment powered by straight 24K and colloidal gold for an more radiant glow. This facial mask is seen to be ideal for all skin types, especially those who are concerned with a bit of lack in elasticity in certain areas in the face. In this case, we mean around Danielle's eyes.

During the 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm

While Danielle was wearing the 24K Gold Mask, she wasn't able to distinguish the type of fragrance that was giving off. She described it to be "unnatural," and it wasn't a great smell, but it wasn't a terrible scent either. Something chemical, similar to Play-Doh, but lighter. Either way, the smell wasn't horrible.

The texture was "extremely thick and slimy," still feeling like a high-end mask, but it was also pretty difficult to spread across her face. Danielle basically described the mask to literally be like gold because of the appealing little gold flakes in the formula!

She was hesitant at first to apply the mask because of her sensitive skin. In addition, she was even a bit nervous to spread the facial mask around her eyes and eyebrows because of the intimidating gold color. However, she had high expectations for this facial mask, wanting to hopefully see a difference in her skin after application.

This facial mask features, obviously, 24K gold, that actually has powerful anti-aging benefits and helps with firming, lifting, brightening, and even calming the skin’s appearance. The colloidal gold aims to lift and firm the skin while the magnesium re-energizes the skin and diminishes the look of the aging effects of stress. There’s also caffeine in the formula to help with the skin’s tone and condition!

When the 24K Gold Mask was slowly drying on her face, it didn't feel stiff at all to her. In actuality, Danielle mentioned that the mask didn't completely dry and had a sticky finish without any tingling sensations.

After the 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm

After Danielle tried on the 24K Gold Mask, she realized that the mask made her skin feel a lot tighter and smoother, too! Looks like firmness can be checked off the list of accuracy. The mask also didn't make Danielle's pores feel like they were being clogged by the thick, sticky, texture—which is always a plus. Despite her skin tone being pretty even in general, she did notice a difference in making her face look more vibrant.

Since the facial mask made her skin feel luxuriously smooth, so Danielle highly recommends trying out the 24K Gold Mask before any big event just to smooth out the skin. She also can't get enough of saying that she put straight 24K on her skin!

An aspect that Danielle wasn't crazy about was the consistency of the mask. Yes, it was very sticky; sticky to the point where she believed that she had to use more of the product in order to evenly spread it across her face. Even though she slightly broke out on her T-zone, Danielle admits that this is common whenever she uses a mask—it surfaced the impurities.

"Would recommend for anyone looking to dabble in a bit of luxury. It works well enough the make the price tag and the experience worth it, plus it’s fun and made my face all sparkly!"

Before the Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator

Just like many of us, Jess has combination skin and gets breakouts along her jawline and chin area. However, it gets pretty dry on her T-zone and her face is very sensitive. So sensitive that many of the skincare products that she's gone through have caused redness on her face. I can definitely relate and say so many skincare products have broken me out, too.

Despite the fact that Jess has combo skin, occasional redness, a dry T-zone, and sensitive skin, I thought the Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit would do wonders for her skin! This mask is a detoxifying hydrator; it doesn’t matter if you have dry, oily, or combo skin, since everyone should properly hydrate their skin. This super-gentle refreshing gel mask aims to help soothe, hydrate, and detoxify dry, irritated skin with botanical extracts. The mask’s main solutions target dryness and redness, issues that Jess is dealing with.

During The Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator

Jess loved wearing the mask because it gave off a refreshing, cucumber fragrance, but faded away after applying it on. Even though it's mentioned to leave the mask on for 10 minutes, she decided to sleep with it on. Since the gel mask absorbed completely after 10 minutes, her face wasn't sticky anymore and Jess saw this more as a moisturizer. She saw its similarity with aloe gel, too.

The gel mask is formulated with cucumber extract that nourishes, comforts, soothes, hydrates, and de-puffs the appearance of irritated skin. There’s also aloe vera in the mix (just like Jess noted) that’s designed to calm the skin, sugarcane and sugar maple extracts for improving dull-looking skin, and papaya extracts to rejuvenate vitamins back into the skin and help soften the complexion.

The Cucumber Gel Mask is very cooling once freshly applied and it dries down, really hydrating your face after rinsing it off. She realized that all of her dry patches were totally smoothed out!

After the Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator

After giving the Cucumber Gel Mask a shot, the things that Jessica found that the mask helped were the dry patches on her nose and under her eyes, as well as calming down the redness that she tends to get on her sensitive areas, unlike other facial masks that usually makes her face redder. The gel mask did exactly what it was focused on doing, which was to help dryness and redness. However, Jessica broke out the week she tried the mask and believed that facial mask made it worse.

The first night she used the mask, she made sure to exfoliate well before applying the Cucumber Gel Mask from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit. During that time, she didn't have any problems with her skin. However, the second time she used the gel mask, she skipped out on the exfoliator and went straight to the mask after cleansing and toning. The morning after, she noticed how terrible her pores looked. It's clear that you should definitely exfoliate before using the gel mask.

Overall, Jess doesn't recommend someone with acne-prone skin to use this mask. It's mainly a skincare product that's ideal for someone who needs intense moisturizing instead of purifying and getting rid of pimples. She also views the mask to be a great option for someone who owns a collection of skincare products because it's nice to have and use without looking forward to major results. If you want to know how to have a home spa day, this is a perfect compliment.

"This would be a particularly good mask to get your hands on in the summer because I feel like it would be perfect to use after exposure to the sun or salt water to cool down and put some life back into the skin."

Before the 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

Lindsie also has combination skin, yet she tends to be more on the dry side. Through genetics, she deals with under eye bags and puffiness—"Thanks, Mom!" She does have under eye bags, but she never really considered trying out any eye patches to help her out—until I came along!

I showed Lindsie the 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit and she admitted that this was her very first time trying out under eye patches. She usually sticks to the cleansers and facial masks, and they mainly suggest users to keep the product away from the eye area.

This pack of pampering 24K gold eye contour hydra-gels are created to improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, darkness, and loss of elasticity under the eyes. In other words, it's a skincare product that’s perfect for what Lindsie is struggling with!

During the 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

These eye patches include actual 24K gold that provides super powerful anti-aging benefits as well as helping to firm, lift, lighten, and calm the appearance of under eyes. The colloidal gold also lifts and firms the skin while the caffeine helps tone the complexion of the skin. The hyaluronic acid that’s infused in the formula hydrates the skin by attracting and retaining about 1,000 times its weight in water. They certainly seem like magic makers for eye patches!

While Lindsie was wearing the gold patches, they gave off a smell that she thought usually comes from typical face products; nothing floral or fancy. They were also much thicker than she anticipated, though keep in mind she had never used under eye patches before. The 24K Gold Gel Eye Patches come with an enclosed spatula that she found to be pretty useless and stuck with her fingers to place the eye patches on.

Since the under eye patches were thick, Lindsie believed that they were secured under her eyes, but she doesn't recommend moving around too much so the patches don't slide and fall off. She kept them on for 10 minutes and near the end she started to feel a very slight and subtle burning sensation. In fact, the gel eye patches left her feeling very uncomfortable, but realizing that her under eye area is sensitive, she still wasn't discouraged by the skincare product.

After the 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

In the end, Lindsie was kind of fond of the 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. She liked how the patches felt lightweight against her under eyes, but still secure. Even though she knew they were stuck to their places, the patches weren't slimy or difficult to keep in place. They were really easy to apply and the shape of the eye patches fit ideally around her under eyes.

On the other side, because Lindsie has sensitive eye areas, she doesn't recommend this product to those who have the same issue. If you happen to have puffiness and large under eye bags, you should check the ingredients before giving the 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches from Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit a shot.

"I would recommend this to a friend who needed to rid themselves of wrinkles, puffiness, bags under the eye, but would suggest reading the ingredients. It was fun to have some gold on my face for a bit!"

Survey says?

Just like the majority of skincare products out there, we're going to find a few aspects that we love and a few that we don't. As for Peter Thomas Roth's Mask-A-Holic Kit, our experience was over all positive. Honestly being able to test out five different masks for the price of one is enough for me to recommend it to anyone who has multiple issues with their skin and it open to trying some out of the box (hellooooo 24k gold) methods to improve these issues. This set was certainly fun to try out, and our results were mostly positive. As with any new product you try, it's important to check what your skin needs and make sure that your not too sensitive to try out unfamiliar skincare products! Survey says? Recommend!
