13 Indie Brands That Remind Me of Goth Culture and/or Halloween

Independent Brands

Disclaimer: Skip ahead if you don’t care for a long introduction.

Okay, I do not prescribe to goth culture, therefore I am quite ignorant on that score. Therefore, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I, however, do adore goth aesthetic, and I found these brands to be gothic in nature to my ignorant eyes. While they all also remind me of Halloween (not to be stereotypical), some remind me of All Hallow’s Eve a bit more than goth. Now I know it’s quite a bit early, seeing that it is not even September yet. But the inspiration hit (looking at my local stores that were already advertising costumes) and I wanted to hit the idea when it was still hot. Hence, here we are.

Of course these brands are aesthetically dark (for a lack of a better word) throughout the year. Therefore, regular brands who are simply coming out with a Halloween-esque collection were not included on this list—which low key breaks my heart, because some of it looks so cool and drool worthy. It also goes without saying that brands that are owned by conglomerates or a parent company were also not included on this list.

Credit for brand information/introduction goes to Angelica Nyqvist (Indie MU Lover and YouTuber; go check her out), Google, and the brands' websites (especially the 'about us' pages).

I personally only care for eyeshadow palettes when it comes to indie brands. So, the ones with the asterisk signs are my recommendations where you should check out the palettes.

And now without further ado, here is the LIST:

1. Alien Cosmetics

Aesthetic Theme: Cutesy; Halloween

Eyeshadow: One palette

2. Baby Bat Beauty

Aesthetic Theme: Cutesy; goth and Halloween

Eyeshadow: No

3. Belladonna’s Cupboard *

Aesthetic Theme: Mature; goth

Eyeshadow: Palettes

4. Blackmoon Cosmetics

Aesthetic Theme: Beautiful and edgy; Halloween and/or emo

Eyeshadow: One palette

5. Cryptic Cosmetics

Theme: Pretty and subtle; goth

Eyeshadow: No

6. Fyrinnae

Theme: Magical; both

Eyeshadow: Singles

7. Lunatick Cosmetic Labs * (Contour Palette)

Theme: Horror, vintage and comic vibes; both

Eyeshadow: Palettes

8. Manic Panic

Theme: Colourful; both

Eyeshadow: Singles

9. Meesha Lou *

Theme: Magical and paranormal; Halloween (author Kresley Cole – IAD vibes)

Eyeshadow: Yes

10. Notoriously Morbid

Theme: Goth

Eyeshadow: Singles

11. Pretty Zombie Cosmetics

Theme: Both

Eyeshadow: No

12. Strobe Cosmetics

Theme: Cutesy; Halloween

Eyeshadow: One Palette

13. Velvet 59 *

Theme: Pretty; a little bit of everything, especially rock music

Eyeshadow: Palettes

Note: Some people also consider Saucebox Cosmetics, another indie brand, to be goth-friendly in terms of packaging. I personally do not. It is both magical and edgy, yes. Yet at the same time I am extremely on the fence to say it’s gothic or even Halloween-y (I know that’s not a word). Nonetheless, I have mentioned it and they do have several eyeshadow palettes. Plus, it is a very beautiful looking makeup line. No harm in simply window shopping now, is there?

If memory serves right, all of these brands are based in the US and are cruelty free. But I could be wrong.

Also, LA Splash is coming out with a cool cosmic-looking Halloween collection. I know it’s cheating, since this is not an independent brand. But it is too freaking good looking not to mention.

So, I hope this may help you folks out there who like a little bit of dark in their life (like moi). If it does, please share this post. Follow me on IG, and stay tuned for more.

Thank you so much for your time. And always remember, confidence equates to beauty.

Au Revoir, Mon Ami.

XOXO
